Holding a children’s party may feel like just one more strain on the purse strings given the state of the economy, however, when your child has already made out the invite list and started to get excited what do you do?  It is possible to plan a party on a budget and still give everyone a great time.

Here are the top tips for your credit crunch party:

The guest list can get longer and longer especially within the 4 to 6 age group where full class invites have become the norm.   Don’t feel obliged to invite everyone, limiting the number of people you invite can make the party more enjoyable for everyone.  Consider holding a theme which is girl only or boy only.

With a smaller party of perhaps a dozen children you can consider holding this at home which means you can save on the cost of a venue and the food.  Keep the food simple as children only ever graze at parties and consider buying a sponge cake and icing it yourself to make the birthday cake and let the birthday child get involved, let your child decorate the cake with hundreds and thousands.  Always use bottled drinks where possible to prevent spillages and buy multipacks of water and juices to save money.

Make your own invitations, you can download pictures or scan a photo of your child onto an invite and let them help design and make them with you.  A great way to pass some time whilst saving money.

Room decorations are widely available so shop around on the internet and in supermarkets, string some standard balloons together to brighten up the room and save on the cost of professional displays but don’t make the mistake of scattering the balloons around the floor as kids love to pop them.

The entertainment is an area you might where you may not want to compromise, entertaining a group of children for two hours isn’t every parent’s idea of heaven.  Make sure that you are as vigilant as ever when choosing a professional entertainer for your own peace of mind and the safety of the children.  Always ask if the entertainer has a CRB (police check), insurance and testimonials, this shows that they take their business seriously.  Check what happens if the entertainer falls ill, they should have a backup plan.   Ask exactly what is included in the package as some entertainers offer balloon modelling or craft activities within the overall package which could save you spending as much on Party Bags.   You could even ask for just 1 hours entertainment to reduce costs.

Party Bags are something which children have grown to expect, many entertainers can now make up party bags for you for less than £2.50 each or if your entertainer provides balloon modelling then you can send them home with a balloon model, a chocolate bar and piece of birthday cake, don’t feel pressured into spending a fortune.
