15/12/9 Appeal for new Christmas gifts to give to our homeless children in North Wales, Cheshire, The Wirral and Merseyside this Christmas
Presents are to be dropped off at Plas Bellin Hall, Oakenholt Lane, Northop, Flintshire, CH7 6DF.

Save the Family is a local charity providing sheltered accommodation for Homeless Families in North Wales, Cheshire, The Wirral and Merseyside. Many of the children which we support have never experienced a happy Christmas.

Without Save the Family, the only alternative for these Families would be for their Children to be taken into care, as the state has a duty of care to all Children in the UK. Families are the incubators that both parents and children need. The power of Family love gives strength, and without that strength it is hard for Children to grow into rounded adults. We know from experience that when Children are taken in to care the Family is weakened and destroyed and the detrimental impact on the child can be long lasting, socially, educationally and psychologically. Every night, 150 people depend on Save the Family for a roof over their heads. Those helped by the charity come from the poorest 10% of neighbourhoods in the UK; estates with endemic unemployment, domestic violence, drug or alcohol abuse, poor health, unsuitable housing conditions, high levels of debt and low educational attainment. Save the Family works to restore self-respect and teach basic life skills, while addressing the root causes of repeat Homelessness.  Its goal is to give Parents back their hope and give their Children a future.

For more details contact Save the Family 01244409100 www.savethefamily.uk.com

To respond email noticeboard@kidsguide.co.uk

Hi Laura
There are lots of classes in Chester listed in
Kidsguide's clubs and classes section. A good one my kids have been to which might suit you in Chester is Theatretrain which does dance, drama and singing and holds shows in local venues and occasionally in high profile venues such as the Royal Albert Hall - a great experience for children. Their contact details are 01978 311446
chester@theatretrain.co.uk
www.theatretrain.co.uk speak to Steve Davies.

Would recommend Delta Dance Academy in Wrexham, less waiting time to get in, does shows and is cheaper than some of its competitors… all sorts of classes, my daughter who is 7 does a performing arts one, an hour of dance, singing and drama..

My name is Faye and I have just started my own mobile ceramic painting company and wondered if this is something you would be interested in?

My products include mainly mugs, plates, tiles and popular seasonal items such as Christmas baubles and prices range from £5.00 - £20.00 per item which includes paint, glazing and firing.

Along with this I also have finished items for sale.

Hi Jan
I am an Independent Trader with Phoenix Trading and we sell elegant contemporary greetings cards, giftwrap and associated stationery plus charity Christmas cards from home.  Our charity Christmas cards support Cancer Research UK,  Children's Hospices UK and also local charities nominated by Traders and their customers. They are excellent quality and very much cheaper than similar quality cards in the High Street shops.  If you are not familiar with Phoenix it is no trouble to send you a catalogue or bring a basket of sample items to show you so that you can see what good value they are.  I would love to book a table at your Christmas Market if you do not already have a Phoenix Trader booked in.  Thank you.
Kind Regards

Suggest you try Cadsart at Northgate Arena/Christleton Pools - excellent teachers, good venues ..... both my children have learnt with them, have  a 3 year and 7 year on their programmes. 2 year olds would normally be one of their parents and toddler groups both on Saturdays and Sundays. Contact Northgate Arena in Chester to be put through to their office, they start the next term of lessons shortly.

To respond email noticeboard@kidsguide.co.uk

Hi Debbie
There are usually postcards in the Spar or the door of little shop further down towards the bank - forget what it's called but it has photo frames, baby gifts, etc in the window.
The library is another place where you might find info about childminders - on their noticeboard.
Otherwise it might be worth asking at the Infant school - they are back next week - if they know of any parents who are childminders.  Weston Rhyn School (I know not in Chirk but near enough) has a SureStart centre, I'm sure they would have info about childminders in the area.
You can also contact the Children's Information Bureau (Wrexham) on 01978 292094, email
cib@wrexham.gov.uk or visit http://wrexham.gov.uk/cib
I hope this is of some help to you and wish you every success in finding a childminder!
If you are ever in need of an evening babysitter please feel free to contact me - I live in Chirk!

After a few years of trying, I haven’t found one yet. For stains on the kids clothes, I’ve found that a stain removing powder in the wash usually does the job.

I always use a pre-wash spray treatment, a number are availabe at supermarkets and they target the hard to shift "orange" stains etc. Then just wash as normal. regards Liz

Hi,
It is fantastic. I've been there with a few children. Yes it will be busy but it all adds to the atmosphere. The one thing I would say is that it is good for slightly older children. I think the age that it suits for is age 6 and over as long as they are fairly confidant.
Have a good time.
Louise

Thanks Louise - we went on Saturday and had a great time. It did get very busy in the afternoon so next time we'll get there early. Thanks!

We are trying to improve the amount of information we have on Kidsguide about activities specifically for children with special needs and disabilities - particularly clubs, sports, holiday schemes etc. If you have any details please, please send them to us so we can share the information.

To respond email  noticeboard@kidsguide.co.uk

Although not specifically for children with disabilities, I would just like to advise that Girlguiding UK and the Scout Association are both inclusive organisations and children with learning difficulties / disabilities / SEN are more than welcome to join these organisations.
For more information, contact them through the local or national contacts listed on Kidsguide, but be warned - some groups do have very long waiting lists!  Rather than struggle to get your child in when they are the right age to join, it is better to get your child's name down early and then decline a place you are offered when your child is old enough to attend if you no longer want it or feel your child is not in a position where they would be able to cope with attending!
I hope this is of some use
Laura

Disabled swimming night is Friday at Connah’s Quay Swimming Pool.
Also the Deeside Leisure Centre used to have a sports club on a Friday evening too but not sure if that has folded as it wasn’t very well attended. I also noticed publicity regarding wheelchair curling at the Leisure Centre in the local paper recently.
“Daffodils” in Mold is a very lively group of able bodied and less able youngsters who get out and about all over the place as well as holding events in the Glan-y-Afon Centre in Mold.  Telephone 01352 751605
The Action for Children charity (formerly NCH) run a playscheme for Flintshire school pupils in the summer holidays.  They liaise closely with the local schools involved so all the pupils know about it.  Tel 01352 754186
Hope this is of some help.

20/7/9 Toddler type group for dad's.
Does anyone have any ideas what my husband could do every Thursday, when he looks after our 15 month old son. He needs something "to do" to get him out of the house and keep our son entertained for a couple of hours. I go to lots of different classes, such as Rythm Time or Baby Sensory, but my husband would feel these to be too "female orientated" and would be embarrassed to sing and dance around! He needs something more "manly!" that does not involve too much singing. Chester/Wrexham area would be ideal. Any suggestions?

Hi Jill
There are a couple of suggestions on Kidsguide's
dads' page - not much on a Thursday though I'm afraid. If anyone has any suggestions please let us know.

What about a swimming class? I know Puddleducks have a class on a Thursday

3/7/9 Go Ape vs Aerial Extreme
Does anyone know which of these two is easier? I tried Go Ape last year and I found it exciting but very challenging. Now my 10 year old and her friend want to try it but I'm a bit concerned about taking them. I was wondering if there is a lightly easier version anywhere nearby. Last year we went to a similar thing in France which was still challenging but easier and lower than Go Ape and you had your safety line on permanently and didn't need to keep unhooking it. I was hoping to find something similar here. Any ideas?
Zena

To respond email noticeboard@kidsguide.co.uk

Hi Zena,
Have you tried them with the Crocky Trail in Waverton. I have never been but have heard it is good and they get very muddy. I think it is about £7.00 each which is more reasonable than Go-Ape.
Let me know what you decide to do.
Louise

Thanks Louise
We haven't tried the Crocky Tail yet. We did try the Manley Mere Trail last year which was very muddy but great fun and quite reasonable too. Still haven't got all the mud stains off the inside of the car from the mucky kids though!
Zena

Aerial extreme is definitely easier - we took 10 x 9/10 year old girls for my daughters 10th birthday.  They don't have to clip on and clip off like on go ape, also no adults have to go up with them - if they get stuck the staff will go and rescue them - also the lower level of the 3 is cheaper than the 2 higher levels so a good place to start if you aren't sure how confident people are.
Go Ape is great but takes about 3 hours if there is a group of you going round and you need a 1 adult to 2 kids ration - they must be 10 and must be 1.4 m tall.  I would still be dubious at that height as I'm 5ft 8" and found some of the reaches a bit of a stretch.
Hope this helps!
Jane

Thanks Jane - this is very helpful - sound just right for us.

In the last couple of years we've bought dad a game he can play with the kids. Last year it was a cheap cricket set, the year before a couple of tennis racquets, the year before a simple garden quoits set. In each case it only cost £5 - £10 from the local post office or Tesco and they have had lots of quality daddy time.

Whenever my son and I run a children's drumming party, the Dads long to have a go on our extensive electric kit.   We also have an eleven piece (six drums, five cymbals) acoustic kit.   My son offers drumming lessons and one-off "specials" in Christleton during university vacations on both of these kits.   Why not give a session or even a series of lessons as a Father's Day gift?   A one-off session costs £18.   A block of five half-hour lessons costs £40.00.

Julie Pickford
Northwich

To respond email mf.pickford@sky.com or noticeboard@kidsguide.co.uk

Hi Julie
To find your nearest Guides group you need to do the following:

Visit the Girlguiding UK website www.girlguiding.org.uk and click on the 'join us' option on the menu on the left of the homepage, follow the links for 'girls and young women' then 'request for information' and there is a form to fill in so somebody can contact you with the details of your nearest group.
We are an inclusive organisation and the fact she has SEN shouldn't be a problem, there may however be a long waiting list as many areas are in desperate need of more volunteers.
Good luck, I hope you find her a group to join!
Laura

We are trying to get a group going in Sandbach. If you are interested in meeting local Mums and Mums-to-Be, just like you, in the Sandbach area, please come to Quarelli's on Thursday 21 May at 10 am.
Don't worry about being roped into anything, we just want people to come and have a coffee and a chat, meet each other and talk about what kind of group they would like.
