Press release October 2006 - re: 1 million hits

9th October 2006

Chester-based Family WEBSITE achieves 1 million hits!
www.kidsguide.co.uk

KIDSGUIDE.CO.UK, the Chester-based website for local families, has this week achieved an astounding one million hits since launching last year.

Commenting on Kidsguide’s success, founder Zena Barrick said,
“To reach one million hits so quickly is just amazing. It shows that Kidsguide provides a service thousands of families find useful.”

Parents and relevant local companies or organizations can use Kidsguide free of charge 24 hours a day simply by clicking on www.kidsguide.co.uk. Kidsguide provides comprehensive and easy-to-use listings of the things parents really need to know. To date Kidsguide has over 130 pages crammed with details about kids’ clubs & classes, children’s sports, childcare, parties, baby & pre-school facilities, family support services and days out in this area. Kidsguide also features a constantly updated “what’s on for families” section.

As reported widely at its launch, Kidsguide was established by Chester mum, Zena Barrick, who wanted to create a one-stop-shop of information for local families.

“I was frustrated at how hard it was to find out where to go on a rainy day, when our local toddler group met or who could teach my daughter guitar.”
So she set up Kidsguide.co.uk as an online directory of places to go, services and events for kids.

Kidsguide struck chord with local parents and word soon spread about this new free website. As visitor numbers grew, the emails started pouring in from all over the country asking for Kidsguide to cover their area too. So Kidsguide started expanding and already serves the whole of Cheshire, Wirral, Flintshire and Wrexham.

New design for Local Family WEBSITE

www.kidsguide.co.uk

Kidsguide, the popular Chester-based online guide for local families, has launched a fresh new design making it even simpler to use. The new look Kidsguide has a clean welcoming appearance and easy-to-use menu and listings pages.

“I wanted to make Kidsguide even more user-friendly.” explained Kidsguide’s creator, Zena Barrick “The new homepage has links straight to the most popular pages such as places to go, classes, parties and childcare.”

Since its launch early last year, Kidsguide.co.uk has received almost half a million hits from local families seeking up-to-date information about facilities, events and services for children aged 0 - 14 in Cheshire, Wirral, Flintshire and Wrexham.

“Kidsguide seems to have really struck a chord with local families and businesses”. said Zena, “I knew there was a huge need for a family friendly directory-style website. But I had no idea how massively popular Kidsguide would be.”

Recognising Kidsguide’s popularity, many local companies have approached Zena asking if they could advertise on the website. The new design offers them opportunity to promote their services directly to local families.

With Easter approaching, Zena is expecting another big jump in visitors to the site.

“There is always a huge surge of interest during the school holidays as parents check out Kidsguide’s “what’s on for families” and “places to go” sections.”

New ON-Line Niche Advertising
FOR BUSINESSES Targeting Local Families

www.kidsguide.co.uk

Kidsguide, the popular Chester-based online guide for local families, is now offering promotional opportunities for companies targeting this niche market.

Since its launch early last year, Kidsguide.co.uk has received almost half a million hits from local families seeking up-to-date information about facilities, events and services for children aged 0 - 14 in Cheshire, Wirral, Flintshire and Wrexham.

“Kidsguide seems to have really struck a chord with local families and businesses.” said Kidsguide’s creator, Zena Barrick. “I knew there was a huge need for a family friendly directory-style website. But I had no idea how massively popular Kidsguide would be with families and local companies.”

Recognising Kidsguide’s popularity, many local companies approached Zena asking if they could advertise on the website. Kidsguide has always offered free basic listings to local companies and charities but there was nowhere on the site where a company could get a higher profile. In response to the demand, Kidsguide has now launched a fresh new design with spaces for companies wishing to promote their service to this highly targeted market. From just £15, companies can raise their profile on the site and give their business a real boost.

“What appeals to the companies is that Kidsguide is so precisely targeted at parents with children aged 0 – 14 in Cheshire, Wirral, Flintshire and Wrexham.” Zena explained.

Within the first few days, companies as diverse as party organisers, sports teachers, face-painters, and nappy suppliers had snapped up advertising slots.  They were keen to get on board before the Easter rush when Kidsguide is expecting at least 3000 - 4000 hits per day.

Because Kidsguide is web-based, it is constantly updated and on-line directly in people's homes 24 hours a day.

“The internet makes it so easy and quick for companies to place ads. All they have to do is email their details to me and I can usually have their ad on-line the same day. This a big bonus for small businesses which need a quick response and don’t have huge resources.”

If you would like more details about how your company can benefit by using Kidsguide.co.uk, please email contact@kidsguide.co.uk.

Since its launch earlier this year, word has spread among parents at the school gates and now Kidsguide is visited by over 300 local families every day.  One of its key attractions is the comprehensive “places to go” section which lists everything from tourist attractions to nature reserves to rainy day ideas. For hungry families, there’s a new “eating out with kids” section as well as suggestions for great picnic spots.

Parents worried about the cost of the keeping kids happy for six weeks will be delighted with the section on free stuff. “The long school holidays can be very expensive, so Kidsguide has a whole section of places to go that don’t cost a penny!” said Zena.

Parents still searching for holiday childcare should check out Kidsguide for details of activity clubs, summer schemes and nurseries.

Press release January 2005 - re: launch

what’s on for chester kids?
sorted with locaL mum’s new web site
www.kidsguide.co.uk

Local mum, Zena Barrick, has launched “Kidsguide” – definitive and locally biased on-line guide for Chester families seeking up-to-date information about facilities and events suitable for children in Chester and the surrounding area.

The web site – www.kidsguide.co.uk  – is designed to be community-based pulling together information about a variety of activities and resources such as after-school clubs, contacts for swimming lessons, where to borrow toys for children with special needs, as well as services such nappy laundering.

Speaking about her motivation for setting up the web site, Upton mum, Zena Barrick, said: I had lived in Chester for five years when I had my first baby and as I had not grown up in the area I had no network of contacts to tell me how to find childcare or where to take kids on a rainy day. I didn’t discover that there was an excellent toddler group just round the corner until my daughter was three and too old to go!

Zena added: “Although there are many sources of information in Chester, there didn’t seem to be a single, easy-to-use resource to find out all the kids’ stuff you usually only find out by speaking to people.”

Establishing a single resource was the motivation behind www.kidsguide.co.uk, which has taken a whole year of painstaking research to complete.

www.kidsguide.co.uk has expanded rapidly to include sections on childcare, local family support charities, kids’ sports clubs, language classes, parties, baby and toddler services and a continually updated what’s on listing.

The web site is aimed at parents with children aged 0-14, in particular, those new to parenthood, new to Chester or who are simply fed up of hearing those immortal words “I’m bored… what can we do today..?”

If you have any suggestions for family-friendly facilities, services or events around Chester, please email contact@kidsguide.co.uk. It’s all free and you will be helping other local families by sharing your knowledge.
